Micky Bimble served his apprenticeship in the streets of Canterbury. He performed at Glastonbury Festival in 1992 before touring Europe armed only with three fire clubs, big ears and a sense of humour. Settling in Portugal he became a regular at the Womad Festival in Caceres, Spain, and founded ‘The Zippies’ who were performers in residence at Pacha Nightclub in Ofir, Porto, delighting crowds of up to 7,000 a night with a blend of character-based clowning, ultra-violet theatre and crazed Diablo!
From 1996 to 1999 he worked with ‘Companhia Marimbondo’, a four-man ensemble touring the length and breadth of Portugal, animating diverse events from medieval banquets, to the ‘Festival of Clowns’ in Santerem.
He also performed at Expo '98 in Lisboa and co-wrote and performed in the children's circus theatre plays ‘Circo Mamamia’ and ‘Os Bobos’.
The new millennium saw a collaboration with French performer Stephane Livo, to create ‘Los Dos Tornados’ - a comedy juggling act which headlined the ‘Artist’ Festival of Badajoz. Inspired by a month learning mime with the Spanish master Carlos Martinez, Micky created and toured the solo children's show ‘Micky Mãos’ in which mime and contact juggling were focal points.
Having developed an addiction for heights performing in ‘O Cameleao', an aerial based performance in the ‘Festival de Loures’ Lisboa, Micky returned to Britain in 2001 and trained static and doubles trapeze with Jackie Wellbourne, corde lisse with Gareth Bailey and attended three Acrobatics courses with Polichinelo Circus. He toured with Syrcus Circus playing Spanalzini in Coppelia in 2003 and in their environmental tour, ‘The Tree of Annwn’ in 2004.
The three years upto 2005 also saw the formation and development of Madam Mango's Circus, with partner Claire Crook. This project, based around a pneumatic trapeze rig built onto a touring vehicle involved weekends of workshops on Village greens and performances of ‘Pandy's Potions’, a one-hour circus/theatre production.
He toured with Circus Ricardo in 2005 performing several acts and directing their new show. He also co-wrote and performed in a tour of the "Splendid" cabaret show with Sheffield based company Jamboree Arts.
While in Sheffield, Micky developed his teaching capabilities working on a long-term project with Creative Partnerships, Sheffield at Yewlands School as well as many short-term schools residencies. He worked regularly for Swamp Circus and Greentop Circus providing outreach workshops and corporate team building workshops. He was a tutor on the OCN accredited Circus in Performance course run by Greentop as well as creator and compere of a much acclaimed run of cabarets at the venue.
2013 saw Micky develop a new circus discipline, the Cyr wheel, a deceptively simple, yet fiendishly difficult piece of equipment to master, requiring amazing levels of strength, balance and grace.
He collaborated with fine artist Liliana Robins to create the art/circus crossover piece, "Sweet" which premiered in 2016 at the Circus 62 showcase at Victoria Works in Sheffield (see acts page)
He has recently relocated to Devon.
